There are rumours that people are experiencing health issues after taking the COVID-19 vaccines. Indian scientific studies by top health consultants have clarified that the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and not related to sudden deaths among adults and young people. There have been numerous deaths due to cardiac arrest, and people relate it to the consequences of taking the Covishield and the Covaxin.
Key Findings from the ICMR and NCDC Studies
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) conducted complete research to find out the actual cause of these sudden deaths, especially due to cardiac arrest among the youths aged between 18-45 years. This research was conducted in collaboration with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and the key findings are:
- They clearly explained that there is no link between COVID-19 vaccines and these immediate, unexplained deaths in India. They clearly say that, “COVID-19 vaccines are safe.”
- There may be some extreme cases that may occur due to the side effects from certain components from the vaccine. Otherwise, all the COVID-19 vaccines used in India are absolutely safe and effective.
- The study depicts that there may be some complications related to diet, lifestyle choices, or genetics after the COVID-19 disease, which may be a reason for sudden cardiac deaths. Body’s immune system may have decreased, but vaccination has no link to any of these situations.
Two Major Studies were Highlighted
- The first study, called “Factors associated with unexplained sudden deaths among adults aged 18-45 years in India,” was a multicentric matched case-control study done by ICMR’s National Institute of Epidemiology (NIE). This study took place from May to August 2023 and included 47 tertiary hospitals across 19 states and union territories. The director of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)- NIE said,” We have conducted studies across 50 hospitals in the country, and about 800 cases of sudden death were reviewed…”
They looked at people who seemed healthy but suddenly died between October 2021 and March 2023. He added, “… and what we found is that Covid-19 vaccination is not associated with sudden deaths.”
- The second study was conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi and examined the common cause of deaths among young adults. The study found that heart attack and sudden heart failure are the major reasons for the same. Some already existing problems and genetic factors may lead to such situations, and there has been no change in the death patterns for many years now.
Recent Concerns and Political Statements
The results came around the same time as growing public worry following news that over 20 people died from heart attacks in the Hassan district of Karnataka in just one month. The state’s chief minister, Siddaramaiah, suggested that the quick approval and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines might be linked to these deaths. However, the Union Health Ministry and experts said there is no proof that the vaccines caused these deaths. To find out more, a committee has been formed in Karnataka to look into the situation further.
What’s Next?
The Ministry of Health is asking people to trust scientific information and not believe in ideas that aren’t proven. The government is focused on using research based on facts to keep everyone healthy and safe. The vaccination was given to people because of its benefits and saved millions of lives in that case. It is not important to believe everything that comes out in public; always remember to trust the certified and expert opinions.
