After 2020-2021, India has witnessed a renewed surge in COVID-19 cases. And this is raising concerns among health authorities. The surge in COVID-19 cases is believed to be linked to its new variants, including Omicron, known as JN1. This variant has recently started spreading across various regions of the country. But, one thing is here that it is not as severe as compared to the previous variants of COVID.
About The Omicron JN1 Variant
The Omicron JN1 variant is the new version of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This is the same virus that has caused COVID-19. This variant is part of the Omicron family, and currently, it is dominating overall COVID-19 cases on the global level. The virus is slightly similar to the Omicron version. But it is more easily spread as compared to Omicron.
Rising Situation Of Omicron JN1 In India
As of now, there are a total of 7,000 which has been discovered as per the reports so far. But the Union Health Ministry, they had reported that 7,400 active infections on June 15th. Kerala has the most cases, which is around 2,100 active cases. Followed this significant increase in the case, Karnataka, Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra and also West Bengal.
The Karnataka has been registering 132 cases on average rate in single day. On the other hand, Gujarat and Kerala have been reporting 79 and 54 new cases. However, the death in these states was limited and occurred mostly among elderly people and people who have low immunity.
Symptoms Of Omicron JN1 In India
Given below are some of the common symptoms of the Omicron JN1 variant of COVID-19;
The New COVID-19 variant often causes a painful and soar throat. This is sometimes also referred to as “razor blade throat”.
Another common symptom of this variant includes fever, dry cough and fatigue.
Many people with this variant also suffer from cold, nasal congestion or a runny nose. This is similar to allergy cold symptoms.
On the other hand, some of them have suffered from severe headaches, muscle aches and body aches.
Reason for Concern With This Variant
This variant is not as serious as COVID-19 variants, but it does not mean that we cannot take any precautions against it. One concern about this variant is that it spreads very quickly, so people need to be careful about it. This can affect the health authority if the case rises sharply in the country.
Its other variant, which is NB.1.8.1, is also spreading along with the Omicron JN.1 variant. The World Health Organisation has classified these as Variants of Interest or Under Monitoring due to their rapid spread and potential impact. However, most cases of this variant are mild and can be cured properly. But 10% of the patients, especially those who have health issues, may develop some serious symptoms of these variants. So they had to take care of themself properly to protect themselves.
